What Is Email Reputation?

Email reputation is like a credit score for your email address and domain. Mailbox providers, spam filters, and security tools use it to decide whether your messages land in the inbox, get flagged as suspicious, or see poorer inbox placement.

Reputation works in both directions. When you send email, your domain reputation determines inbox placement. When you receive email at signup forms, CRM imports, or lead pipelines, checking the sender's reputation helps you filter out disposable, fraudulent, or compromised addresses before they enter your system.

Why Email Reputation Matters

  • Deliverability: Poor reputation is the number one cause of emails going to spam. It directly affects open rates and engagement.
  • Data Quality: Checking reputation at signup and form submission prevents disposable, fake, and compromised emails from entering your CRM and marketing pipelines.
  • Fraud Prevention: Domains with missing authentication or blocklist appearances are commonly associated with phishing, spoofing, and account abuse.

Email Reputation Checker

Every Signal That Shapes Your Sender Reputation

Email Insights analyses authentication records, domain health, and blocklist data to give you a complete picture of any email address's reputation in seconds.

Authentication Health Check

Instantly verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configuration for any email domain. Missing or misconfigured records leave you vulnerable to spoofing and lower inbox placement.

Domain Blocklist Monitoring

Check whether a domain appears on known blocklists maintained by security providers. Blocklisted domains often see poorer inbox placement or delivery issues.

Domain Age and History

Newly registered domains lack sending history and trigger suspicion. We surface domain age so you can assess trustworthiness at a glance.

Encryption and Transport Security

Check SSL validity, MTA-STS policies, and BIMI records that indicate a domain has transport security controls configured for email delivery.

Normalized Risk Score (200–1000)

Get a single normalized score that summarises all signals. Higher scores indicate greater risk. Scores above 600 warrant investigation.

Plain-Language Risk Explanations

Every risk signal comes with a human-readable explanation so your team can act without needing to decode technical jargon.

Who Uses an Email Reputation Checker?

From marketing operations to security teams, reputation data helps you make informed decisions about email trust and deliverability.

Signup and Onboarding Teams

Assess inbound email trust at point of entry

Evaluate the reputation of email addresses during account creation, form submissions, or CRM ingestion. Surface disposable domains, blocklisted senders, and missing authentication before they pollute your pipeline.

Email Reputation Checker FAQ

What is an email reputation check?

An email reputation check analyses the authentication records, domain health, and blocklist status associated with an email address. It tells you whether mailbox providers are likely to trust messages from that sender or flag them as suspicious.

How is the risk score calculated?

The normalized risk score ranges from 200 to 1000, where higher scores indicate greater risk. It combines authentication health (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), domain signals (age, blocklist status), and deliverability indicators into a single actionable number. Scores at or below 300 represent the lowest risk, while scores above 800 represent the highest risk.

What do SPF, DKIM, and DMARC mean?

These are email authentication protocols. SPF specifies which servers can send mail for your domain. DKIM adds a cryptographic signature proving the message was not tampered with. DMARC tells receivers how to handle messages that fail SPF or DKIM checks. Together, they prevent spoofing and improve deliverability.

What does it mean if a domain is blocklisted?

A blocklisted domain has been flagged by one or more security providers for sending spam, phishing, or other unwanted email. Messages from blocklisted domains are often rejected or routed to spam folders by receiving mail servers.

How can I improve my email reputation?

Start by configuring SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your domain. Ensure your domain has valid DNS records and consider implementing MTA-STS for transport security. If you are blocklisted, identify the listing service and follow their removal process. Maintain consistent sending volumes and avoid sending to invalid addresses.

Is this email reputation test free?

Yes. You can run up to 1,000 reputation checks with a free trial at no cost. For higher volumes, batch processing, and API access, sign up for an Email Insights plan.
